2016 Women’s Aerospace & Defense Networking Event
The Women’s Aerospace and Defense networking event was held Thursday, November 17, at Cinemark Monaco, and it was a great turnout! At least 75 men and women attended the event put on by Lockheed Martin, Sikorsky, Raytheon, and WID-TVC.
2016 Annual Membership Meeting and Scholarship Breakfast
The Tennessee Valley Chapter of Women In Defense held its Annual Meeting and Scholarship Award Breakfast on September 15 at the Jackson Center. Our keynote speaker was Ms. Laura M. DeSimone, MDA Director for Acquisition. Our 2016 scholarship winners were also recognized during this event. 19th Annual Space and Missile Defense Symposium
The Women In Defense Tennessee Valley Chapter participated in the 19th Annual Space and Missile Defense Symposium, held at the Von Braun Civic Center August 16-18. The SMD Symposium is the leading education, professional development and networking event in the space and missile defense community. Read more about our success during the event here!

2016 MDA Small Business Programs Conference
The 2016 MDA Small Business Programs Conference was held June 8-9 at the Von Braun Civic Center in Huntsville, AL. Women In Defense Tennessee Valley Chapter supported this event by running the registration tables. The program included briefings from the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Office of Small Business Programs, the Directors of MDA Acquisitions, MDA Contracts and Program Office officials on relative upcoming MDA procurements. The MDA Small Business Advocacy Council (SBAC) was also in attendance to discuss small business opportunities, one on one, with individual company representatives.
NOVA Networking Event
President Corby Dellarocco and Communications Director Elizabeth Griffith represented Women In Defense Tennessee Valley Chapter at NOVA Huntsville’s Hangar Party at the Huntsville International Airport on May 20. NOVA was established to serve as a directory of local community groups for young professionals. Read more about the event here!
WID 2016 Mentoring Series Session 1
WID-TVC held its first session of the 2016 Mentoring Series on April 29 at the Huntsville Madison County Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Myra Gray, Executive Director of the U.S. Army Test, Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment Activity (USATA-TMDE) served as our speaker. 2nd Annual WBCNA WOSB Event – “Converting Contacts Into Winning Contracts”
The 2nd annual WBCNA WOSB event was an action-packed day full of insights from leaders in Huntsville’s world of Woman Owned Small Businesses. The event, titled “Converting Contacts Into Winning Contracts”, was purposely held in the month of March, as it is Women’s History Month. We heard from various speakers, networked with individuals from the defense industry, and gathered lessons learned from panelists.
Local STEM Project Featured in ASME Poster Contest
The Greengate School Dyslexia Project, developed by a team of senior mechanical/aerospace engineering students from the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) and funded by WID-TVC, was recently featured at the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Southeast Student Professional Development Conference. WID National Conference, March 8-9, 2016
The WID National Conference is held March 8-9 in Washington D.C. As part of this 2-day event, a silent auction will be held to raise money for WID HORIZONS Scholarships. Membership Appreciation Reception, February 23, 2016
WID-TVC held its Membership Appreciation Reception on February 23 at the Huntsville Chamber of Commerce. Attendees enjoyed breakfast and networking with other members. The board presented updates on events, programs, and opportunities that are coming up in 2016. We have an exciting year ahead!
NDIA 2016 Membership Dinner, February 11, 2016
NDIA Tennessee Valley Chapter put on a beautiful dinner reception for its members on February 11 at the Jackson Center. Ms. Lisha Adams, Executive Deputy to the Commanding general – U.S. Army Materiel Command, was the keynote speaker, and 2016 NDIA officers were installed by MG (R) Barry Bates, member of the National Board of Directors/Trustees for NDIA.
